Production process and Material
We care about the production process of each and every Lovelady pad at Dhartimata. Since a pad makes direct contact with one of the most sensitive and delicate parts of our body, we emphasize on using only natural and hygiene materials.
Dying the cotton yarn by soaking it in the valerian juice of beautiful pink color, weaving on the traditional handloom, combined with the traditional sewing technique, the organic vegetable dyed cloth pad is born.
Our Materials and processes
Organic Cotton
The natural cotton used to make the yarns, and then the fabrics to make Lovelady pads comes from Organic farmers in India.
Plant-based natural Dye(Vegetable dye)
The soft pink color of the organic fabric is from a valerian plant called’ Madder’. It is known by the name ‘Manjishtha’ in Sanskrit. It was used in traditional Ayurvedic medicines even in ancient times. The plant is believed to have healing properties.
Hand-woven fabrics
Nepalese women are among the best in hand-weaving fabrics using traditional handlooms.
Selection of the pattern
The outer clothes with printed patterns are carefully selected in the cloth market in Kathmandu. They are all made of 100% cotton with traditional Nepalese totems and lovely patterns.
Cutting
Having said, all the cutting is done with hand by our women team, however complicated the shapes are. In fact, it is one of the first skills they learn when joining the team.
Paddle Sewing Machine
For the final step, traditional treadle sewing machines are used to sew the pads
Zero Waste
After making the pads, the leftover cloth pieces are recycled and used to knit tablemates and other small usable objects. We are working hard and putting our best effort to create a Zero Waste System.
The birth of a Lovelady Pad
